ITANAGAR, May 9: Former Home Minister and National People’s Party candidate Kumar Waii has slammed the Pema Khandu government for being mute on the financial status of the state and had written a letter to the Chief Secretary on April 24 seeking clarification in this regard.
Speaking to reporters, Waii said, “On behalf of the common people, I have requested the Chief Secretary to give clarification on the financial status of the state, but till date they are mute on the letter. However, CS has informed that the ban on government cheques up to Rs 10 lakh has been lifted and the validity has been extended to June 30 next. As per report, there was an expenditure of Rs 4000 crore in the month of March last, so government should come clear on the report and give details of usage of the fund.” He also commented that a clarification on the state’s financial status is expected from the Chief Minister who often terms his ruling BJP government as transparent and corruption free.
“Instead of giving clarification on the financial status, the representatives are enjoying in Delhi for last few weeks, whereas common people are fighting hard for a single penny to survive,” asserted Waii.
While countering the state government on Model Code of Conduct, Waii said that as the election process is almost over, there is no justification that payments should be halted for the completed projects. Alleging that the government is befooling the common people in the name of MCC, the former Home Minister questioned that if funds are available then why the government is extending the cheques to June 30, which falls under the next financial year. He also made an appeal to release payments against the cheques issued by the state government.
“State BJP government is making a castle in the cloud and had even failed to provide 50 % state share for Smart City Projects in Itanagar and Pasighat. I was also an Urban Development Minister and as per the Smart City Projects, the project cost of Itanagar is Rs 1700 crore and for Pasighat it is Rs 1500 crore to be completed in three years. When the Centre had already sanctioned the 50% central share, the state government has failed to sanction the state’s share resulting in delay of starting the projects till date,” slammed Waii.
