ITANAGAR, Jul 4: On the eve of the 72nd Vana Mahotsav the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Alumni Association Pakke Kessang district unit organized a tree plantation drive on a barren patch of land on the banks of river Pakke. The plantation area is in the periphery of the 861.95 sq km Pakke Tiger Reserve and was once a firing range for the Defence.
This plantation effort by the VKV AA Pakke unit was unique in the fact that the plantation drive was also a reforestation effort close to the popular Pakke Tiger Reserve, which starts from the other bank of the river.
Besides being just another plantation effort to mark the occasion, soil conservation, conservation of Pakke Tiger Reserve, increase of green cover with the active support of the local communities like Women Welfare Organization Seijosa, Bali Youth Association, Seijosa Badminton Club, Nyishi Elite Society Seijosa block, Gora Abhe Society, Nature Conservation Society and the Gram Panchayat members and villagers, DFO Forest and Wildlife was another highlight.
Another interesting fact of this noble work was the variety of saplings planted. The Unit planted fruit trees that the nearby hornbills of the Pakke Tiger Reserve can feed upon. The very unique, popular and successful hornbill nest adoption program of this reserve is world famous.
