ITANAGAR, Feb 11: An online Table Top Exercise (TTEx) on Incident Response System (IRS) for mega earthquake scenario was conducted today jointly by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Union Home Ministry and the State Department of Disaster Management.
Members of the NDMA, State Disaster Management Authority, Deputy Commissioners of all districts, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), State Disaster Management Force (SDRF), NDRF, BRO, CRPF, ITBP and other stakeholders attended the TTEx which was conducted to assess the capabilities and preparedness of the state to endure any major disaster and determine the loopholes for subsequent rectification. Member, NDMA Lt. Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) while deliberating on the necessity of regular training on disaster preparedness cited the recent avalanche disaster in Uttarakhand. Secretary, Disaster Management Dani Salu presented an overview of the State Disaster Management Plan and the state’s earthquake preparedness. He informed that Arunachal Pradesh has a notified Incident Response Team (IRT) to respond to major disasters which are automatically activated during disasters. He also commended the NDMA for conducting the state level mega mock exercises last year which enabled the state to face Covid-19 pandemic effectively. Nodal Officer, SDRF-cum-SP, Fire and Emergency Services Sanjay Bhatia made a presentation on the status and preparedness of the SDRF. State Epidemiologist Dr Lobsang Jampa spoke on medical preparedness for earthquakes and Covid-19 information for first responders. 
Brig. Kuldip Singh (retd.) from the NDMA who conducted and moderated the TTEx gave an elaborate presentation on step-by-step actions to be taken by every stakeholder during an earthquake event and the importance of having a dedicated Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) equipped with robust communication system to tackle any disaster efficiently.
