HOLLONGI, July 31:  The villagers of Hollongi Karbi village under Balijan Circle are reeling under misery due to the absence of village link road since the Airports Authority of India (AAI) started the construction of boundary wall for the proposed Greenfield Airport at Hollongi.
Narrating the story of their misery, Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) Hollongi Karbi Village, Talo Langneh said, "We had only one link road earlier, but that comes under the runway of proposed Greenfield airport. AAI is about to block the said road by constructing the boundary wall. Villagers are helpless; even no compensation was demanded by the villagers for the said road.”
He also added that, now the village has no  link road to enter or exit, even drainage system is non-existent  in the village due to which water from nearby streams and rivers enter the village resulting in flood-like situations.
Further, GPM also informed that villagers had earlier submitted a two-point memorandum to the Local MLA, Doimukh Constituency on  May 1 last for construction of the village link road and construction of storm water drainage system in the village.
While reiterating their demands, GPM Talo also appealed to the local MLA Tana  Hali, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and  AAI to look into the grievances of the villagers.
“We have location and land for alternative link road, so we request the government  to extend their necessary support for the construction of link road and drainage system for the village,” he appealed.
Expressing the hardship being faced by the villagers, a local woman said , "Road is the major component for any development but we have no roads here. The saddest part is that, during any kind of medical emergency, we have to carry the patient on our shoulders to reach the nearest hospital.”
