ITANAGAR, Oct 26: The untimely death of Taro Chatung, one of the pioneers in the fields of electronic journalism and film making in Arunachal Pradesh who breathed his last today at TRIHMS this morning has been deeply mourned by various sections of society.
 
 
 
Condoling Chatung’s death, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd) said that it is a great loss to the state. “I wish to express my deepest condolences to his family and the media fraternity especially those he worked with. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Governor said in his message. Chief Minister Pema Khandu while expressing grief on the sad demise of the veteran journalist in his message said, “It breaks my heart to know Chatung Sir is no more with us. We grew up hearing about him and watched him on ‘News & Views’ every evening through the weekdays on DDK Itanagar. It would be impossible to fill the void he has left behind as an omnipresent journalist.” He offered prayers for eternal peace of the departed soul while extending solidarity with the departed soul’s family members, relatives and media fraternity of the state. State Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona expressing grief over the untimely demise of Chatung said that his demise is an irreparable loss to the state and he will always be remembered for his contributions to the society especially in the field of journalism.
 
 
The Arunachal Publishers & Broadcasters Guild today mourned the demise of veteran journalist Taro Chatung. The Guild while expressing shock over his untimely demise remembered late Chatung as a legend who laid the foundations of electronic journalism in the state.
 
"He won viewers with his unique reporting style. His popular TV show 'News & Views' is iconic and unmatchable till date," the Guild said.
 
The AP&BG extended its condolences to the grieving family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
 
Meanwhile, National People’s Party (NPP) Arunachal Pradesh with its  State President Gicho Kabak, Working President Pani Taram and Vice-President & Spokesperson Nima Sangey Saling along with other state office bearers expressed deep condolence on the sudden demise of Taro Chatung.  Chairman of Tollo Kadung Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, Polo Colony, Naharlagun. (a newspaper distributor in Arunachal Pradesh), TK. Tagru and all its members have deeply mourned the death of the veteran journalist. Tanw Supun Dukun (Apatani Apex Council) while condoling the death said that Chatung was not only the true icon of Arunachal Pradesh but a living legend with multifaceted personality whose achievements and contributions for the development of the state will serve as a bench mark for all. Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) while expressing grief over the death of Taro Chatung saying that his demise is a great loss to Arunachal’s journalism. Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) in their condolence message said, “With Taro Chatung’s demise, the state has lost a true human being who was loved by all and took journalism in Arunachal to the next level.”  Condolence messages have also flown in from All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) and Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) led by President Tarh Nachung, Vice-president-cum-PRO Toko Prakash and Chief Adviser Pradeep Kumar. All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while offering condolences also observed a 2-minute silence during an emergency meeting as a mark of respect.
 
 
 
Taro Chatung was born on 1st March 1963 in Ziro and after quitting a state government job, launched first electronic news through a slot of DDK for 15-minute, named ‘News & Views’ which brought the age-old rich cultural heritage and lifestyle of the tribal people of Arunachal before the rest of India. He revolutionized electronic media through his typical style and served as Presidents of Arunachal Press Club, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists and Arunachal Electronic & Digital Media Association. Two weeks ago he was detected suffering from serious level ailment and was flown to New Delhi for treatment where the doctors sent him home. He was admitted to TRIHMS and passed away at 10 am on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
 
 
 
His mortal remains were brought to APC where the press fraternity led by APC Adviser Taba Ajum, APC President Dodum Yangfo, APUWJ President Amar Sangno paid floral tributes and observed one-minute silence. “Chatung is amidst us and remain always in our hearts,” said Ajum. Yangfo described as how Chatung pioneered electronic media while senior journalist Pradeep Kumar said he was behind revolutionizing electronic media in Arunachal. His brother Taro Tallo saluted media fraternity for standing with the family at the time of grief, while his wife Taro Bina was crying beyond consolation. A media team will be leaving  for Ziro early Sunday morning to join the funeral rites.
