ROING, Feb 11: Traffic movement came to a standstill at the Roing – Anini route, with private goods carriers, including government and tourist vehicles stuck for kilometres due to heavy snowfall at Mayudia.
Mayudia, located 50kms from Roing in Lower Dibang Valley, is a popular tourist place especially during winters when tourists flock to enjoy the snowfall. Since January last, Mayudia has been experiencing heavy snowfall beckoning tourists from neighbouring districts and Assam.
Continuous snowfall and single- lane road resulted in traffic jam for hours on the route. “We are supposed to reach Anini but traffic jam left us stranded for the whole day. There was complete failure of traffic management, haphazard parking by visiting tourists and vehicles trying to jump the line resulted in the jam,” said EAC Anini, N Borang.
Many officials stuck in the jam suggested the need for traffic regulation for smooth movement of vehicles. Though JCB was deployed to clear the snow and GREF personnel tried their best to make the route through it proved futile and took the whole day for the jam to be cleared.
