Yingkiong, Nov 17: In a rare feat, a team of local mountaineers has explored the hitherto uncharted mountains of Upper Siang district and scaled Mt. Eko Dumbing, one of the highest peaks of the region situated 13690 ft above the sea level.
Led by Everester Kishon Tekseng, the team comprising local climbers Taram Sitek and Tarep Tekseng also aimed at spreading awareness among local people through the expedition about the importance of mountains and protection of wildlife in the district. The Alpine-style expedition was organised by a team of local mountaineers named Jatum Pabang Hirum from Simong village. Flagged off by DC Taper Pada on October 28 last, the expedition was flagged in by DFO Anying Boli on November 13.
Appreciating the team for its success, the DC has exhorted the youths of the district to take part in such adventure activities. DIPRO
