ITANAGAR, Oct 1: The All Kra Daadi District Anti-Corruption Students’ Union on Tuesday alleged that subsidized kerosene oil is not reaching the intended beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Kra-Daadi, despite regularly being released to the distributors from the godown located at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district.
In a press conference held today here at the Press Club, President, AKDACS, Khyoda Tatomi alleged that although the official subsidized price of kerosene is Rs 24 per litre, it is actually sold at an exorbitant price at rates between 50-70 Rs per litre in Kra-Daadi. The union requested the immediate intervention of the Chief Secretary in streamlining the distribution of subsidized kerosene oil among the eligible consumers.
AKDACS also claimed that they lodged a complaint against the District Food & Civil Supply Officer (DFSO) along with SK oil retailers under Kra-Daddi district for allegedly diverting and misappropriating kerosene oil amounting Rs 7, 92,000 allotted to the district for the Financial years 2016-17,2017-18-2018-19. Claiming that the allocation happens only in departmental papers, Tatomi alleged that not only kerosene but also other commodities under PDS seldom reach the genuine beneficiaries as they are either diverted or openly sold by people who don’t even have any designated outlets. He alleged that the DFSO has given a free hand to the retailers to hoard goods and raise the prices according to their whims and fancies, bringing hardship to the common people in the district. In this way, Tatomi said that the poor villagers are not only deprived of their quota of kerosene oil but also the state is losing huge revenue. “ We request the CS to initiate an inquiry to unearth the whole scam with effect from January 2016 to 2019 and persons involved must be held accountable,” Tatomi appealed while also demanding immediate cancellation of license of all SK oil retailers illegally operating in the district.
The Union also requested the CS to direct the concerned department to maintain transparency and ensure that essential commodities reach the genuine beneficiaries with display of the names of beneficiaries, distributors and other information on a board outside the Fair Price Shop/Outlets.
