ITANAGAR, Jun 12: The All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) has threatened to call a 36-hour East Kameng bandh over non-fulfillment of their demands that include posting of a permanent ADC for the district headquarters, filling up of vacant posts of administrative rank officers and posting of subject teachers in East Kameng district.
Addressing the media persons here at the Arunachal Press Club (APC) on Friday, AEKDSU Spokesperson Ajay Matam said that despite verbal assurance by Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar about fulfillment of their demands, nothing has materialised as yet. Recalling that the union had served a seven-day ultimatum to the CS last month, he said that since there has been no response, there is no option but to go for the bandh.
Matam said that the current ADC In-charge is already burdened with other administrative duties including his permanent post as the Project Director (PD) of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA). “A person who is already loaded with other responsibilities can’t devote the time required for the post of ADC which is hampering public-related office works and other developmental activities,” he said. The union further added that thirteen Circle Officer (CO) and Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) posts in the district are lying vacant which has never been looked after by the state government till date and the CO of Bana has been working as the CO In-charge of three more administrative Circles nearby.
AEKDSU General Secretary Pritom Yangfo said that students of the district are suffering due to insufficient number of teachers in government higher secondary and secondary schools. “The right to education is being curtailed due to insufficient teachers. Therefore we have also demanded posting of TGT and PCT teachers in the district,” he said, further alleging that corruption in government educational institutions in the district headquarters has left the students to suffer. “The new building of GHSS in Bebo Colony is in a dilapidated state which is negatively impacting the students,” Yangfo stated. “Sniffing gross corruption, the union has filed a case with the SIC. We demand an inquiry on the issue within one month,” he said, alleging that Principal of the school issued the NOC despite fully knowing the poor quality of the building.
AEKDSU has also demanded immediate commencement of maintenance works of the Pacha Hydropower Project, inquiry into the delay and alleged corruption in Seppa-Chayangtajo road construction works amounting to 172 crore and early installation of a blood bank in the district.
