ITANAGAR, Apr 3: The Adi Students Union (Guwahati Unit)in a release has expressed strong objection over granting of bail to Rajen Tachang, who was recently arrested by the Assam police for allegedly killing one Katem Dai, a fourth semester B. Tech student of Scholars Institute of Technology, Gorchuk, Guwahati on February 20 last.

Expressing surprise that the accused has been released from police custody within two weeks of his arrest, the ADISU (GU) has urged the state government to initiate immediate steps to challenge the bail so that the process of investigation is not obstructed.

Also questioning the integrity of Assam police in granting anticipatory bail to accused without completion of the procedural formalities and investigation, AdiSU (GU) opined that how can the perpetrator be granted easy bail regardless of repeated outcry of the aggrieved family members.

Describing the negligence shown by the Assam police as a serious breach of existing law, the AdiSU has strongly condemned the partisan act of Assam police in depriving justice to the family of the victim.

Further demanding a free and fair investigation to unearth the whole episodes leading up to the incident, AdiSU has sought the state government intervention in initiating a comprehensive investigation over the case by a competent authority to bring immediate justice to the aggrieved family.
