ITANAGAR, Jun 4: Hundreds of supporters joined the peaceful rally organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Abotani Students’ Union (AAPATSU) on Saturday from Akashdeep to Tennis court, IG Park, Itanagar demanding the cancellation of Non-APST PRI leaders from Lekang Constituency.
Shouting slogans, holding placards and banners, they registered their protest  against the state government regarding the union’s two point demands -- immediate implementation of one-time solution to resolve long pending Schedule Tribe (ST)/Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC)/Schedule Cast (SC) issue of six tribes of 48th Lekang assembly constituency, Namsai district and cancellation of Non-Arunachal Pradesh Schedule Tribe (Non-APST) elected as representatives like Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC), Gram Panchayat Chairperson (GPC), and Gaon Burahs of 48-Lekang ST assembly constituency, Namsai district.
Speaking to reporters at Tennis court here, President AAPATSU Langpu Apon said, “We demand immediate cancellation of the Panchayat posts secured by Non-APST members as it is directly connected to PRC rights. The Non-APST elected members are enjoying the indigenous rights which we cannot tolerate."
The union also demands immediate resignation of Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) Chowna Mein, accusing him of providing PRC to Non-APST settled in 48th Lekang Assembly Constituency, Namsai District with an ill intention, he added.
“We will go beyond democratic movement in order to fulfill our demands," said the AAPATSU president.
He also  urged other organizations and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to come forward in support of the union’s agitation on a genuine issue.
"We should take up the issue collectively," he said.
Earlier, the union had threatened to organize democratic movement if the state government fails to address its grievances through a representation submitted to the latter on April 24 this year. It had also served a 20 days ultimatum demanding the same.
