PASIGHAT, Sep 25: Taking a serious note of the encroachment of Arunachal's land by the people of Assam along the Assam-Arunachal boundary under Paglam Circle of Lower Dibang Valley district, the District Border Students’ Union (DBSU) has appealed to the District Administration to initiate eviction drive immediately.
To discuss the issue, DBSU held a meeting of all executive members including advisory bodies and public representatives residing along the Assam-Arunachal border areas at Roing Circuit house on Wednesday under the Chairmanship of DBSU President, Mingkeng Borang. The meeting was called for non-fulfillment of the union’s demand by the Lower Dibang Valley DA due to which a district bandh has been called by them on October 20 next. “As per records available, the actual boundary between Assam and Arunachal was from Dibang river and later the boundary was again marked from Dotung river which was agreed between the then Dambuk MLA, Bassu Perme and his counterpart MLA Josna Sonowal from Sadia, Assam. But despite the agreement, the Assam side has illegally encroached various parts of the state at Etsum and Mepun villages which are barely 300 mtrs away from the SDO Office, Paglam,” DBSU President said, while appealing the DA to initiate action to evict the encroachers.
However, Sub-Divisional Officer of Paglam Circle, Philip Tayeng clarified that the matter is under court’s subjugation due to which eviction activities in the said areas is not possible. “In this regard a meeting of all parties, including DBSU, representative from DFO Roing and administrative officers from Assam was held at DC’s office recently where the matter was clearly outlined before the student union too. As per court’s order we have to maintain the status quo, ”, SDO Paglam added.
