TEZU, Jan 15: The Lohit District Administration has made adequate arrangements for smooth conduct of holy dip on Makar Sankranti at Parsuram Kund with adherence to Covid SOPs. The DA has left no stone unturned for the safety, security and overall arrangement for the holy dip. However, the surge in Covid cases across the country has hugely impacted the numbers of pilgrims in comparison to last year.
Over a thousand pilgrims took part in the holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti on January 14-15 observing Covid protocol.
“We have done our best at the ground level for smooth holy dip apprehending spike of COVID cases. Unfortunately, a sudden surge of COVID cases has largely affected the turnout,” says Deputy Commissioner Lohit, Marge Sora DC Lohit.
The surge in Covid across the country has badly affected the numbers turning for the holy dip. We can see a countable number of pilgrims in comparison to last year, says the DC.
”Over 2500 security personnel are deployed to ensure security and safety of the pilgrims. We have monitored the situation to control COVID spike and without any untoward incident could manage the festivity”, says Superintendent of Police, Ankit Kr Singh.
Every year, Parsuram Kund is thronged by pilgrims for holy dip during Makar Sankranti with devotees coming from all over India including Bhutan and Nepal.
Volunteers from Arun Joyti, Wakro and NSS were also engaged to manage the devotees.    With the COVID-19 situation being a major concern for the state and the Lohit district as well, the administration has also taken overall preparedness to deal with the pathogen.  The DA has ensured all arrangements and adherence of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at the site.
