ITANAGAR, Sep 3: Urban Development (UD) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) etc. Minister Kamlung Mosang on Thursday made a surprise inspection of the projects undertaken and maintained by the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC).
Inspecting the under-construction slaughter house, burial ground and solid waste management plant, all located along the Chimpu-Hollongi National Highway-415, Mosang assured to provide necessary funds for construction of retaining walls and security fencing of the slaughter house. However, he expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of construction and installation works and directed the IMC site engineer and contractor to set the target to complete works within the current financial year. The Minister also directed the IMC Executive Engineer Kame Bengia and other officials to explore more land for the burial ground as the current location does not have much scope for expansion to meet the requirements of the ever-growing population of the ICR.
While instructing the officers of the UD department and IMC to re-activate the defunct solid waste management plant for proper disposal of garbage, the Minister advocated for adoption of best solid waste management practices. He asked the field functionaries of UD & ULBs to work hard to improve the cleanliness status of the state’s urban towns especially the ICR. Appealing the denizens of the twin capitals to cooperate with the sanitation workers in segregating bio-degradable and non-degradable wastes, he reminded that sanitary workers alone cannot keep the city clean unless there is a high degree of civic sense among people. The Minister also visited some of the monsoon-damaged drains, retaining walls and roads in various Sectors/Colonies of ICR and directed the concerned officials to expedite restoration works.
UD Chief Engineer Taring Darang, SE Marcony Potom and a team of IMC Engineers also accompanied the Minister. It can be recalled that Mosang had conducted a review meeting in this regard with Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Commissioner Planning P.S Lokhande, Chief Engineers Dr. Atop Lego and Taring Darang on August 2 last.
