NAMSAI, Jan 8: In a tragic road accident on the National Highway near Tengapani in Namsai district  late evening on January 7, a boy lost his life and another received serious injuries. The accident occurred at around 6.16 pm when the deceased and his pillion rider were on their way to Namsai from Tezu in a two-wheeler which rammed into a tractor. The deceased who died on the spot has been identified as Mannyam Jamikham of Hasse-Russa village in Kanubari under Longding district and the injured as Honman Wangjen also from Kanubari, Officer In-charge, Namsai Police Station CB Rai informed. While the body of the deceased was handed over to the family after post mortem, the injured person has been referred to a hospital in Assam for further medical treatment. A case [No. 3/ 21-U/S 279/338/304/304 (A) of IPC] has been registered at Namsai PS and the driver of the tractor has been detained for further investigation, Rai informed.

Meanwhile, the OC has appealed to the denizens to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and maintain proper safety measures especially during the festive atmosphere of the New Year.
