Itanagar, Dec 12: Atleast two houses were gutted completely in a fire mishap at New Kothin village under Dadam circle of Arunachal's Tirap district at the mid-night of December 10.
Important documents including hard cash of Rs 57,000, traditional ornaments, and other household items were destroyed in the fire.
There was, however, no report of any human casualty, official sources said. It was suspected that the fire, which broke out around 10.30 pm, might have originated from the fireplace of one of the two houses.
According to the fire victims Wangdep Kamhua and Wangpoi Kamhua, the blaze probably ignited at the kitchen of a thatch dwelling house of Kamhua where pork was hung for drying. There was a traditional housewarming party in that night.
Meanwhile, Khonsa West MLA Chakat Aboh accompanied by in-charge DDMO of Tirap, Pik Tayom visited the fire victims at New Kothin village on Sunday and provided relief, including CGI sheets, utensils, essential commodities and warm clothing to the fire affected families. Tayom, who is also the Circle Officer of Dadam, informed that he has taken stock of the situation and did the property loss assessment which will be forwarded to the government for further necessary compensation as per guidelines.
He said that immediate relief items have already been provided to the fire-hit families on Saturday by the joint SDRF and DDM team.
While interacting with the fire victims, the lawmaker suggested them to keep at least 20-25 meters distance while rebuilding their dwellings so as to avoid fire accident in near future.
She added that since the hilly areas/villages are prone to fire accidents, as such fireplace at the thatch house kitchens need to be taken proper care of by every individual.
