AALO, Jan 11: Two persons have been arrested for hunting and sale of wildlife meat in the newly created Shi-Yomi district.
On receiving information from local sources, a team of Forest and Police officials led by West Siang Divisional Forest Officer, Abhinav Kumar raided a roadside shop near Hirgo village in Shi-Yomi district and found a large Indian Civet displayed for sale. The dead animal and two accused Tatu Kiri and Sunil Kiri were taken into custody.
During the joint operation it was found that the roadside shop owned by Tatu Kiri, located on the right side of the famed Siko Dido Waterfall on the way to Mechuka is used for displaying and selling wild meat to passengers and passersby from Aalo.
RFO Mechuka, Marbom Sora, visited the shop in the guise of a customer looking for wildlife meat. After waiting for almost an hour, a group of local visitors came to the shop and one of them was carrying a large Indian Civet carefully hidden inside a basket. At this point of time, entire team of officials came to the scene and arrested the culprits and took custody of the civet.
The accused have been produced before an Executive Magistrate and a case has been filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Aalo under Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
