ITANAGAR, Oct 11: Expressing concern over the report of merger, disinvestment and privatization of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Ltd, which is a Government of India Enterprise, former Chief Minister of the state and incumbent MLA Sagalee, Nabam Tuki has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the decision.
In his letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Tuki stated that the report of merger has created fear psychosis not only among the employees of NEEPCO but also among all stakeholders and beneficiaries especially Project Affected Families, unemployed youths, vendors, daily wage labourers etc. NEEPCO was established on April 2, 1976 under the Ministry of Power for socio-economic development of Northeastern states in particular and its road map is to act as an instrument for economic growth of these states, asserted Tuki.
Former CM also added that as per data available in MoU with Ministry of Power, NEEPCO's net worth is Rs 6,395 Crores for 2018-19 up to September 2018 and as much as 95% of employees from NE states are dependent on it. “The disinvestment/ privatization of NEEPCO will grab away the rights, privileges and sentiments of the indigenous people of this region and this will be against your coined slogan ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’,” said Tuki in his letter.
While appealing to reconsider the decision, the former CM asserted that the merger will further result in an imbalance in social, cultural and demographic pattern of the Northeastern states. ES Newsdesk
