ZIRO, Nov 10: Minister Fisheries Er.Tage Taki visited the pilot project rainbow trout fish farming at Pange Valley on Monday to assess the growth of rainbow trouts at raceways which was introduced by the Department of fisheries,Lower Subansiri during the month of May earlier this year.
The rainbow trouts displayed an excellent growth of 80-100gms from 4gms within six months from its introduction to the raceways.
An initiative by Minister Taki, this pilot project will pave the way for development of trout fisheries in terms of seed production, conservation,propagation and sport fisheries activities at Pange. District Fisheries Development Officer Laigi Lasa, Panchayat members and fish farmers accompanied the minister.
Earlier the Minister also visited the Swekhe lake where the sale proceeds of the partial harvesting of fishes from the lake was in progress. A total of 1257kg of fish was harvested.
Fish at the growth weight of 6.8 to 8.9 kgs were harvested from the lake; which is a record in Ziro valley. The Siikhe Multi purpose co-operative society which looks after the lake and its surroundings earned a sizeable earning of Rs.4,39,950 from the sales.
This Swekhe water conservation project , also a brainchild of the Minister is in true terms an exemplary example of sustainable development. DIPRO
