NAHARLAGUN, Oct 12:  No seats for the MBBS course at Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences will be enhanced this year, said Director (TRIHMS), Dr. Moji Jini.
Arunachal's lone medical college started in 2018 with 50 seats and at present it has three batches altogether totalling 150 medical students.
"We had proposed 50 seats for the MBBS course in the initial stage based on availability of infrastructure and other facilities including the strength of faculties. We are in the fourth year, and as of now the institute has three batches of 50 students each," added the Director.
He informed that, in the next two years after completion of the first batch of the institution, the management will apply for enhancement of seats from 50 to 100. "So, we are making arrangements for infrastructure and other requirements so that in the next two years we can get approval for the enhancement," Dr Jini said.
While speaking on the infrastructure development at TRIHMS, he informed that at present the institute has adequate equipment and faculty members as well as books in the library for the students. Construction of academic blocks is in full swing and probably by next year the institute will get a complete structure.
Briefing about the other major equipment, Director TRIHMS informed that the institute has India’s cutting-edge CT scan machine. However, the availability of MRI machines is still in the process.
"Earlier we had sought a commonly available 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, but observing the importance of the institute we have approached the state government to provide a high-end 3.0 Tesla MRI machine, for which the government has already announced the fund. So very soon it will be available at TRIHMS," he said.
