Naharlagun, Oct 1: In the run-up to the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today participated in a ‘Safai Abhiyan’ here at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).
Earlier, Governor visited the wards and departments of TRIHMS, including Central Laboratory, Blood Bank, Cardiology and Radiology and also visited the facilities which are yet to be commissioned due to administrative hitches. He also discussed about the shortage of manpower in the institute. While interacting with the doctors and staff he said that like any other new institute, TRIHMS also is undergoing a phase of resource limitation and exhorted them to work with passion.
Meanwhile, Governor also participated in the ‘International Day for Elderly People’ here at TRIHMS today and distributed wheelchairs, walking aids and blankets to the physically challenged people and senior citizens, sponsored by Anya Ratan, Chairperson, Oju Welfare Association and Minoti Riba, wife of former Chief Minister Late Tomo Riba.
Speaking on the occasion, he complimented Oju Welfare Association and Minoti Riba for their benevolent gesture and exhorted the participants to pledge not to abandon their elders nor allow any elder to be disowned.
Interacting with the students and teaching faculty of TRIHMS during the programme, Governor reiterated that doctors and nursing staff must work with the motto of ‘service and honesty to profession’ and rise to the expectation of the patients. Urging all stakeholders to put in a concerted effort to make TRIHMS the most sought medical college in the country, he also suggested that it should become a good research centre also.
Earlier, Director TRIHMS, Dr. Moji Jini briefed the Governor regarding the challenges of the Medical College. First Lady of the State Neelam Misra, Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Shri Parthiban, Dean TRIHMS, Professor Jayakumar and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Hage Ambing were also present on the occasion.
