ITANAGAR, Sep 10: The Arunachal Pradesh government has constituted an independent committee to investigate the death of a woman at the Tomo Riba Institute of Medical Sciences allegedly due to medical negligence.
The deceased, Bengia Ama Gora, was admitted at TRIHMS and had undergone a C-section surgery on August 31 before passing away on September 6.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Papum Pare, includes eminent doctors from across the state — Dr. Bomni Tayeng (MS Surgery, BPGH Pasighat), Dr. Koj Jarbo (MD Anaesthesia, GTGH Ziro), Dr. Ista Pulu (MS OBG, DH Roing), and Dr. Talar Motu (MD Medicine, RKM Hospital Itanagar). The panel is tasked with thoroughly enquiring into the circumstances of the case and is expected to submit its findings within 10 days.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, reacting to the matter, stated, “I have been informed about the incident by the Health Minister. Following the incident and subsequent discussions, the government has already constituted an independent committee to look into the case. The committee will examine the details, and stern action will be taken against those found guilty.”
The move comes amid growing concern over medical negligence, with the administration emphasizing accountability and transparency. The committee’s findings will play a crucial role in ensuring justice for the bereaved family and preventing such occurrences in the future.
On September 8, public protest was held against the TRIHMS, alleging medical negligence that led to the death of the woman. Following this Health Minister Biyuram Waghe called a meeting with the family members of the deceased and assured to constitute a Committee to enquire about the incident.
