ITANAGAR, Oct 3:  The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) in collaboration with the Itanagar Municipal Council  carried out a daylong mass cleanliness drive from the R K Mission Hospital to the Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday.
The drive, which was organized as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi also saw local MLA Techi Kaso and Capital Complex district transport officer Chakfa Wangsu participate in it.
Addressing a large gathering which consisted of members from different transport bodies, Kaso called upon them in particular and the public in general to maintain cleanliness of one’s surroundings at all times.
“Such cleanliness drives should not be restricted to a particular day or occasion, but it should be a continued process. Moreover, the Swachh Bharat campaign should be carried forward in a more aggressive manner,” Kaso said.
The MLA also called for a “change in mindset” to make the capital city a clean and green place to live in.
“We shouldn’t be a complaint box when it comes to cleanliness and wait for someone to come and collect the garbage. If there is garbage or littering, the people should be responsible enough and take the pain to call the authorities concerned. You may also call me or the deputy commissioner in such cases,” Kaso said.
AAPPTF president, Dobing Sonam, while highlighting the theme of the drive – ‘Say No to Plastic’ said, “Even though plastic has become an inevitable part of our lives, it is time that we should learn to live without it.”
Further highlighting the dreadful effects of single-use plastic on the environment, Sonam said that when it comes to keeping Itanagar clean, each person is a stakeholder and it is the moral obligation of all to keep the city clean, green and plastic free.
DTO Wangsu also spoke on the occasion.
