PASIGHAT, Jul 30: The North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM), an autonomous national institute under Union Ministry of AYUSH today organized a day-long sensitisation programme for the traditional healers of East Siang district here in its campus.
NEIFM Medical Officer Dr. Imlikumba spoke about the importance of certification of traditional healers and its Director Dr Rabindra Tero while highlighting the aims and objectives of the institute urged the participants to share their folk-healing knowledge for scientific validation. Zoologist Dr. Kenjum Bagra spoke about the various dimensions of the practice of folk healing and highlighted the issue of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and importance of obtaining patents. Botanist Dr. Amal Bawri deliberated on the aspect of use of plants in making medicines, their cultivation methods and urged the participants to go for medicinal plants cultivation.
Certificates were distributed to the participants during valedictory session.
