ITANAGAR, Jun 16:  The ongoing heavy rainfall has resulted in a number of flash floods and blockades in various locations of the Capital Complex, prompting the ICR District Administration to swing into action.
People residing near vulnerable locations have been asked to shift to relief camps and safer locations and men and machinery have been engaged to clear the blockades. Relief camps have been set up at Government Higher Secondary School, Arunodaya, Government Higher Secondary School, Model Village and Nyokum Hall, Banderdewa. The Nodal Officers against each relief camp are CO Itanagar Moyir Kato, CO Naharlagun Laxmi Dodum and CO Banderdewa Ritu Tawe.
In-charge DDMO Tem Kaya who visited all the affected sites informed that flash floods have occurred at Borum and Tarajuli villages near Naharlagun railway station which caused severe damage to properties, although there were no casualties. One culvert bridge at Tarajuli was reported to be completely washed away and at F-Sector, Naharlagun a residence was submerged under flood water, the DDMO informed, adding that the causes of flash floods was incessant rain, illegal earth cutting and human interference with the river course.

Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom  had earlier issued an order on May 12 directing the people residing in vulnerable areas to vacate such areas and move to safer locations. The DC had also issued a prohibitory order on May 11 banning earth cutting in the Capital Complex till further order.
