Itanagar, Sep 18:  Team comprising of members from the District Administration Capital Itanagar, District Tobacco Control Cell under District Medical Officer ICC along with the Police carried out inspection drive to check on shops selling tobacco products  within 100 yards radius of schools in the capital Itanagar. 
Large amounts of tobacco products were seized by the team and burnt in violation of Section 6(b) of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. 
The section prohibits the selling of any kind of tobacco products in the shops within a radius of 100 yards of any educational institutions. 
It is pertinent to mention here that the shopkeepers have been time and again warned about the prohibitory order restricting selling of tobacco products in the restricted area through the respective Head of the Educational Institutions.
The DMO Dr Mandip Perme informed that more routine inspection would be carried out in the days to come.
The schools have also put up Tobacco Free Educational Institution signage at the entrance of respective schools.
