ITANAGAR, Aug 24: The Wancho Students Union (WSU), All Tangsa Students' Union (ATSU), Nocte Students' Union (NSU), Tutsa Students' Union (TSU), and Olio Students' Union (OSU) in a joint release has condemned the statement by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union ( AAPSU), President Hawa Bagang made during the community-based consultative meeting on the autonomous issue at DK conventional hall recently.
Referring to a part of Bagang’s speech where he stated that “the demand for autonomy will not be granted to any region and no one should dream about it,” the student bodies of TCL clarified that the creation of Patkai Autonomous District Council (PADC) demand has already been discussed and taken up by the State government since, it was passed on February 16, 2004, in the State Assembly.
"The video clip of his speech in which Bagang was seen stating" "Haazaro morne se bhi nahin milega"  did not go down well with the people of TCL region,” the student bodies stated while seeking an apology.
Summing up, the WSU president said that granting autonomy is a matter of the state and the Centre and should not be interrupted by any organization.
“The state assembly had already passed the bill for granting autonomous council for PADC and MAC long before in the year 2004 and now this matter is in the hands of the central government,” WSU President added.
The student bodies also stated that some organizations of the state are opposing the demand without knowing the ground reality of the region and claimed that the demand for the creation of the ADC is the constitutional right of fulfilling the regional aspirations.
