Khonsa, Sep 15: Tirap Police has arrested two persons for cable theft cases which was on the rise in headquarters Khonsa.
Cable theft case and petty theft cases was on the rise in and around Khonsa township.Inspite of patrolling by Police personnel daily the thieves managed to carry out thier activities in those areas not covered by the patrolling team. The lack of public CCTV coverage in the township area was further emboldening the thieves.
A special team under DySP(HQ) Togum Gongo and SP reserve was constituted by Superintendent of Police Tirap, Kardak Riba to solve the theft cases.The police based on regular patrolling, surveillance over a period of time and intelligence inputs, conducted raids at various places around the town and managed to arrest the two accused.
The duo, Puchat Wangpan,22 and Ganglem Gangsa,25, admitted to have indulged in theft of copper cable wire of BSNL, dismantling of water pipes from few private residences besides theft of some petty items of daily use.They usually carry out the theft during the night hours and after proper recce/surveillance about the presence of Police and usually targetted isolated areas.After the theft is committed the items like copper wires,pipes etc are sold as scraps by altering the shape & size of the items so that suspicion doesn't arise.Besides selling the stolen items in scraps they managed to sell some items to private individuals also, a statement issued by the police said. 
Tirap Police once again appeals to all the citizens that recievers of stolen property is a crime and punishable offence under the IPC, the statement read while informing that more raids will be carried out based on the investigation and the recievers of stolen property will not be spared.
