KHONSA, Dec 23: Miscreants involved in the kidnapping of  staffers of Namchic Tea Estate for ransom were convicted today.
The Sessions Court, Khonsa convicted three persons namely Suraj Chakma, Prem Chakma and Chitiso Chakma under Section 364A and 365 of Indian Penal Code. They were sentenced to life imprisonment and payment of fine for the offence of abduction and kidnapping for ransom. 
On 20 September 2017 when Ashim Deb (store keeper) and Indeswar Taye (Supervisor) of Namchic Tea Estate were coming back home, the miscreants holding dao and arms stopped them and after enquiring their job profile they were forcefully taken towards the tea garden. After some time Ashim Deb was released but Indeswar Taye was forcefully kidnapped by the miscreants and detained in their temporary camp in the jungle for 12 days and using his phone demanded Rs.50,00,000 from the owner of the tea garden. They also threatened to kill Indeswar if their demand was not fulfilled. After negotiation Rs.12,20,000 was fixed as ransom and only after receipt of the payment Indeswar was released. 
 After the ransom was paid and the victim was recovered, SI L. Ganden of Kharsang Police station swung into action and apprehended Chitiso Chakma and as per his disclosure recovered three dummy AK-47 and one pistol made of wood. After commission of the crime two of the miscreants fled to Bangladesh. They could be arrested only in 2019 when the miscreants kidnapped an employee of OIL Company and extorted Rs.30,00,000. Even there were total six miscreants rest are absconding and could not be apprehended till date. 
Later on SI Krishan Kumar filed the chargesheet against the accused persons. CJM, Changlang D. Niri  committed the case for trial to the Sessions Court, Khonsa and Sessions Judge H. Kashyap has expediently conducted the trial and the miscreants have met their fate.  This is consecutive third conviction by him, during last three days. DIPRO
