ITANAGAR, Nov 20: Thousands of students took to the street under the banner ‘Arunachal against Justice’ in the biggest demonstration so far condemning police incompetency in cracking series of high-profile murder cases.
Embodying the theme “Arunachal Resist”, the rally was organized seeking justice for late Toko Yame, Arun Modi, Ojing Tayeng and Ngurang Pinch and was led by aggrieved family members of the victims accompanied by various community-based organizations, civil societies and students' bodies.
A memorandum was also submitted to the governor demanding the immediate resignation of Home Minister, Kumar Waii on moral ground for his alleged incompetence in fulfilling his duty and for the prevailing lawlessness and rising crime graph in the state capital.
Interacting with presspersons, the aggrieved fathers’ of late Toko Yame and Ojing Tayeng said that, if police had played its role sincerely in collecting evidence instead of destroying it, the scenario had been different now.
“We have been running from pillar to post for justice, but our pleas have been denied and our hope in system and humanity is diminishing,” rues both the fathers.

“There is discontentment and insecurity among the common people today due to lawlessness and failure of justice delivery system in the state”, said Ngurang Meena.

This corrupted system is tearing our peaceful state apart, she pointed out adding that it is high time that the common people wake up and come together to make the system right.
Meena also alleged that CM’s announcement to hand over the murder cases to the CBI is just an eyewash to silence the victim families voices as CBI has failed to launch even a preliminary investigation to solve the cases.
She informed that when they visited the CBI office to inquire about progress in the mysterious death of her father late Ngurang Pinch, the officials replied that “my father’s murder wasn't a 'priority case', which I found very disheartening.”
An ultimatum of 30 days was also served to the state government to initiate action to their demands and threatened to launch indefinite democratic movements in the form of capital bandh etc to press for their demands.
