BANDERDEWA, Jun 11: Education Minister Taba Tedir today distributed around ten thousand Lalit guava saplings to the progressive farmers of Yachuli assembly constituency which were provided by the Green Gold company.
Distributing the saplings to 28 progressive farmers of the constituency here at the company’s farm in Tarajuli, Tedir reiterated the need for reducing Arunachal’s dependency on other states for food items. “Our state has a vast geographical area with suitable climatic conditions for growth of all types of agri-horti crops. The only requirement is application of physical labour and change in the mindset of depending on others,” the Minister said. He lauded the company’s Chairman Likha Maj for his initiative under which fruits will be bought back from the farmers after a few years along with maintenance of gardens by the company. The fruits will also be used as raw materials in the upcoming Mega Food Park, Tedir said while appealing the farmers to strive for becoming self-reliant.
Maj informed that since the last three years he had distributed around two lakh Lalit Guava saplings to the farmers of Yachuli AC alone. “Saplings of other plants had also been distributed to the farmers of other areas of the state with the same buy-back agreement. But it is a matter of concern that most of the plants are not bearing fruits as a majority of farmers had not given the time necessary for taking care of the plants. I have cultivated the same plants which are bearing fruits and earned more than Rs 15 lakh by selling them on the streets of Capital Complex and New Delhi,” the entrepreneur informed.
Maj further informed he plans to distribute such fruit-bearing plants to the state’s farmers in future with the same buy-back agreement and technical support.
