SHILLONG/ DAWKI, Mar 20: A seven-member team including two women journalists from Arunachal Pradesh has completed a basic week-long rigorous scuba diving course at Umgot River, Dawki in Meghalaya.
Along with this batch, seven others are also undertaking the course. The participating female journalists were Pill Yania, Reporter at Arunachal Mirror and Agam Dui, Reporter. The course was divided into basic and advanced segments. The basic course ended on March 16 while the advanced course would continue till March 22. The courses  were offered free of cost by the Department of Tourism and training is being imparted by instructors from NIMAS (National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports), Dirang under the Chief Minister Advanced Skilled Advanced Course Scheme. In the basic diving course, trainees were taught about basic diving, life-saving and rescue techniques and how to operate rescue boats in open water in a depth of 19 meters. Scuba instructor of NIMAS, Darshan Singh said the course aims to promote scuba diving along with tourism in the state and urged the youths to regularly visit the NIMAS and tourism department websites and take advantage of the courses and training programmes.
Apart from scuba diving, Singh said the institute also offers a variety of adventure courses like MTB, mountaineering, rafting, paramotor, paragliding and other specialized courses.
