ITANAGAR, Nov 17: Reiterating its demand ,Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA) in association with  All Arunachal Samagra Shiksha AbhiyanTeachers Association (AASSATA) demanded the state government to roll back  its decision for  merging two education directors under a single director, bifurcation of directorate of elementary and secondary education to district levels, enhancement of retirement age from 60 years to 62 years and regularization of 400 posts of teachers.
Speaking to reporters at the press club here on Tuesday, ATA president Kipa Kechak said that the state government is  adamant not to pay heed to the demands of the teachers. He said that the recent cabinet decision on merging two directors into one will create problems in achieving various educational goals in the state.
However, the state government should look into the complete bifurcation of Directorate of Elementary and Secondary education up to district and block levels. He said the ATA is demanding the basic needs and in doing so the state exchequer will not be affected.
Elaborating on the demand for enhancement of retirement age of teachers, Kechak said that the doctors, lecturers and professors in the state have been given the retirement age of 62 years then why can't government teachers be given the same age limit.
“By demanding the enhancement of the retirement age limit, we also suggest the state government to draw a sub clause for those teachers who are willing and physically fit to teach, will be provided with the 62 years of age limit for the retirement,” he said.
President also added that teachers have been teaching in the worst condition with less facility in the remotest districts of the state. Therefore, ATA also requests the state government to enhance the existing Earn Leave (EL) from 10 days to 30 days.
ATA also demanded retention of the engineering wing in the education department so that every poor quality of school infrastructure can be reviewed by the department with proper execution. It also demanded immediate regularization of 400 posts of teachers exclusively created for SSA teachers.
