ITANAGAR, Jun 2:  Anto Rukbo, a professional teacher, has announced that he will float a new political party in the State with the primary objective of bringing about reformation in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and repealing the contentious Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 2014 (APUAPA).
Addressing a press conference at the press club today,  Rukbo expressed his concern over the recurring scams in the APPSC, which has left the public frustrated. He stated that he had two options to fight for the rights of the people -- forming an insurgency group or floating a political party.
Choosing the latter option, Rukbo emphasized that political power and determination are vital to effect meaningful change in the commission and to repeal the APUAPA. However, the new party has yet to finalize its members and a name, he said.
The party also aims to field candidates across all 60 assembly constituency seats in the upcoming assembly election in 2024. Rukbo asserted that his party would address the matter and other public-related issues within three months.
"We are organizing a public meeting on June 3 where we will solicit suggestions from every individual for the party's name. The best name will be announced thereafter, along with the party members," Rukbo stated.
He criticized the current BJP-led state government for only addressing four out of the 13-point demands put forth by the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) regarding the recent APPSC cash-for-job scam. He also condemned the detention of the public during the recent 72-hour ICR bandh, enforced by the state police under the APUAPA, and termed it as a violation of human rights.
Rukbo disclosed that he and a few other members recently visited the State Election Office to gather information on the procedure for establishing a new political party. Presently, the party, yet to be named, is headed by Rukbo as the interim President, along with other interim members.
