Maksam Tayeng

PASIGHAT Apr 8:

Close at the heels of his visit to villages like Namsing, Mer, Kongkul etc near Assam-Arunachal boundary under Mebo Sub-Division, Mebo MLA and Advisor to Chief Minister, Lombo Tayeng has raised huge concern over the wastage of public money as potable water project schemes allotted against these villages have failed miserably.

During his visit to Namsing and Mer villages, the villagers led by PRI leader made special demand before the local MLA to make arrangement for potable water supply as this region of Mebo Sub-Division has a history of water borne diseases during monsoon season. The villagers informed Tayeng about the hollow promises of the department of PHED & WS which had carried out the construction and execution of the much ambitious project. After a complaint was lodged against the department by an organization before DC, Pasighat and CE, PHED & WS, Itanagar, the concern engineer then had made assurances and promises of making the project functional, the villagers informed the MLA. According to ASM, Seram village, Manong Ratan, the similar water project at Kongkul village is also lying under same condition.

On knowing the huge discrepancies and irregularity in the construction and execution of the projects, Tayeng inspected the installed project sites and took serious note of the wastage of public money. He warned that, erring officials and department heads responsible will not be spared. He also assured to pursue the matter at Itanagar and find out the reasons.

It is worth adding here that, under potable water supply schemes the department of PHED & WS, Pasighat had constructed iron made over head tank, filter and ground tank, storage tank, supply lines with taps etc. But none of the component of the water supply worked and the supply of water was never done. After a complaint was lodged, a magisterial enquiry was also instituted led by Circle Officer, Namsing as Chairman. Responsible officers and representatives from PHED & WD, CE office had also inspected the projects and had okayed it.
