Tawang, Oct 21: District health society,Tawang under the banner of National iodine deficiency disorder control programme observed "Global iodine deficiency disorder prevention day" throughout the District. The sensitization cum awareness meeting was conducted at KDS District hospital,Tawang and  CHC Jang where Dr Pema Yuton,MO and Dr Gom Rinchin,MO sensitized Health care workers,ASHAS and  shopkeepers regarding the ill effects of iodine deficiency in the food habits. Tashi, Senior public leader chaired the meeting at Jang CHC and appealed all the shopkeepers to sell only iodine fortified salt in the market.The consumption of commercial salt deficit in iodine may lead to Goitre, mental retardation, Hypothyroidism, cretinism, Abortion, increased infant morbidity and mortality.
