TAWANG, May 14: A meeting to review the current Covid-19 status of Tawang district was convened today here at the DC’s Conference Hall chaired by Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi, attended by DC, SP, ZPC, ZPMs and administrative officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Tashi while expressing concern about the rising number of Covid positive cases in the district said that chances for community spread are high since most of the cases are asymptomatic. Many villages have opted for self-lockdown and are requesting for a district lockdown and apathy in testing has come as a major hindrance in containing the spread, he observed and sought opinion from the DMO and Medical Superintendent, KDS District
Hospital for the way forward. However, final decision for a district lockdown will be taken at the government level, he added.
“The main purpose behind imposing a lockdown is to break the transmission chain and if the government approves the district lockdown we have to go for rigorous testing, contact tracing and treatment to those detected positive. Although the economic costs of any lockdown are high, for the larger interest and after inputs from medical experts we should pursue the matter with the government,” the DC opined. After a threadbare discussion it was unanimously agreed by the participants that a district lockdown is necessary and the request for approval would be sent to the government.
Meanwhile, the MLA assured to extend financial help from the MLA LAD funds of all the three assembly constituencies of the district for purchasing testing kits. DIPRO
