Tawang, Jun 12: A meeting to discuss the District Domestic Product (DDP) performance of Tawang was held on Friday here at the DC Conference Hall conducted by the District Statistical Department.
All the Heads of resource development departments which included the District Heads of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, Forest, Mines & Mineral development participated.  Addressing the meeting, DC Tawang Sang Phuntsok said that works should not be confined to data collection only and rather all the departments should work collectively and seriously to increase the DDP. He said that to realise the ‘Vocal for Local’ goal, traditional ways in agriculture, horticulture and veterinary sectors should be explored, every village should strive for self-sufficiency and APMC can play a major role by providing the required seeds to the farmers and marketing their produce.
It was suggested that the concerned field officers should encourage the villagers to grow more products to increase their income. Veterinary department has been asked to explore the possibilities to produce and commercialize dried cow dung cakes as an alternative source of domestic fuel, besides the normal departmental work of providing services to the farmers.  It was decided that Agriculture and Horticulture Departments will explore the scope of production of walnuts, oranges & other fruit plants, vegetables and ornamental plants and forest department will be entrusted to explore the scope in growing orchid, ornamental plants and flower farms locally available in Tawang.
DAO Tawang Lobsang Zimba informed that due to the menace of wild boars and porcupines, farmers have lost interest in farming and this year potato production in the district has also decreased. DSO (Stat.) Gumba Riba also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
