SEPPA, Aug 3: MLA Seppa East, Tapuk Taku along with Executive Engineer, PHED Bharat Sonam on Monday visited the ongoing construction site of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) project at Nyari Valley Model Village to review the work progress.
Speaking to reporters, Taku said that the WTP is one of his dream projects which will provide fresh drinking water to the people of entire Seppa township.  “It is my dream project and could only be possible under the guidance of Chief Minister Pema Khandu,” he said and requested the locals to cooperate with the executing department for its early completion. He also informed that the project is being constructed under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).
Meanwhile, the EE informed that augmentation of water supply to the township through Phase-I of the project which started in 2017 was completed in 2019. “Site development, approach road and drain, construction of RCC head work, pre-sedimentation tank, clear water reservoir etc. have been completed in Phase-I and formation cutting work for laying of DI pipe is yet to be completed,” he divulged, adding that procurement of pipe has been completed and laying works are in progress.
Detailing the technical aspects of the project, the EE informed that although Phase-II has a completion deadline of March 2022, the department is making all efforts to finish the works ahead of the deadline. He informed that 70% of the work has been completed and hopefully the rest will be done by December 2021. “The toughest task is laying of the pipeline which is facing public non-cooperation and the Covid-19 pandemic is also causing shortage of labour,” he added.
“People want the project to be completed soon for safe and clean drinking water but there are a few sections of people who don’t even want to spare a meter of land for laying of the pipeline,” he observed.
“But despite the instances of non-cooperation, with the help of local leaders and the District Administration and under the able support of the DC, the department has been able to make commendable progress,” the EE remarked.
