Yachuli, Nov 11: Minister Agriculture, Horticulture etc. Er.Tage Taki today launched the organic variety of Lalit guava here at Alley Senyi in presence of Home Minister Bamang Felix and Minister Education and Indigenous Affairs Er. Taba Tedir as a part of the ongoing efforts of the state government to attain the ‘vocal for local’ objective.
Underscoring the importance of agriculture in the state’s economy, Taki said that enormous employment can be created through impetus on agriculture-linked retail trade, logistics and food processing in Ziro I and Ziro II. Felix spoke on the role of agriculture in Atma Nirbhar Bharat and how organic farming can reduce Arunachal’s dependency on neighbouring states for vegetables. The Education Minister spoke on the nutritional value of organic Lalit guava and its health benefits.
The Lalit variety of guava has been developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is a high yielder with wider adaptability. The fruit yield is 100 kg per plant per annum at around 6 years of age, higher than any other commercial variety of guava. During the rainy season in 2017, young entrepreneur and progressive farmer Likha Maj bought more than one lakh ICAR-CISH Lalit guava grafts and made Yachuli which is 80 km away from the state capital, the centre of cultivation and since then has seen high commercial success.
In 2019, Maj provided 50,000 guava saplings free of cost to the farmers of Yachuli assembly constituency as an encouragement to them to cultivate the high-yielding fruit. Dipro
