ROING, Jan 31:  Minister Agriculture, Horticulture, Fishery and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Tage Taki today inspected a 200 hectares oil palm plantation of a progressive farmer, Government Fish Farm at Khinjili, Government Horticulture Nursery at Balek and the upcoming Horticulture Research and Development centre at Balek. MLA Mutchu Mithi, Director (Agriculture) Anong Lego and heads of departments accompanied him during the visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Tage Taki informed about the government’s vision to double farmers income through agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry. He said that rearing of pigs and fishes are viable occupations that can be sustained and made profitable only when we stop importing feed. He promoted cultivation of crops like maize, soya bean and mustard to make animal feed, which will bring down cost of feed and help in the survival and growth of pig and fish rearing units.
Taki also promoted intercropping using crops like maize to increase harvest from crops and improve soil nutrition which will double farmers income. He also expressed admiration and happiness over the scale of oil palm plantation of progressive farmer Dature Miuli and his efforts. His vision, hardwork and sincere efforts will lead him to gain success, Taki added.
MLA Mutch Mithi spoke on the huge potential that Lower Dibang Valley district has in terms of agriculture and horticulture and the vast land resource available. He requested the minister to pay special attention to the area’s development and promote the farmers here.
