Namsai, Dec 15: Like every year the Tai Khampti community celebrated Poi Pee Mau Tai-2115, their traditional new year as per lunar calendar at the Chaupha Planglung Hochayan heritage hall here at the Poi Pee Mau ground on Monday.
This year the festival was observed in a low-key manner due to COVID-19 pandemic. Organized by the Tai Khamti Development Society (TKDS), Tai Khampti Chief Chow Khanseng Namchoom hoisted the Tai flag in presence of at least 100 monks from different Budha viharas who performed chanting and prayer for universal peace, global healing and protection from Covid pandemic. President TKDS Chow Siharaja Chautang extended greetings on the occasion.
Earlier, Mitali Namchoom, the first IAS officer (2011 batch) from the community also held an interactive session with the state civil services Prelims qualifiers and gave useful tips and encouragement.
To mark the day, a cultural programme with songs and dances was staged by various groups and individuals.
