ITANAGAR, Jan 11: Minister Power and Industries Minister Tamiyo Taga has appealed the Centre to relook the complicated export policies in respect to Northeast states to boost trade and export in the region. He also sought special export package to be formulated for landlocked and underdeveloped states of the Himalayan region.

Union minister for Commerce & Industry, Suresh Prabhu along with ministers from 15 states, senior state government officials and Industry bodies attended the crucial meeting. The objective of the meeting was to enhance the Centre's cooperation with the states and union territories in making the latter active partners in boosting India's exports.
‘Trade routes to Myanmar and Tibet region of China through Arunachal which have been closed since independence should be opened after mutual talks and agreements with China and Myanmar,’ Taga said.
He articulated the perspectives on trade policy adopted by Arunachal to facilitate operationalization of trade infrastructure
Agenda points in respect of Arunachal were promotion of spices which have good export prospects like large cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon. Constraints in logistics, gaps in export infrastructure including testing and certification and streaming of regulatory processes were taken up.
Taga briefed about the abundantly rich natural resources but admitted that exploitation of these resources and converting them into commercially sustainable activity for economic growth is yet to be achieved to the desired level in the state. Government of Arunachal Pradesh has put an effort to create the basic infrastructure in the form of roads, bridges and industrial infrastructure like power project, Industrial estates etc, he said.
Batting for resolving the closed trade routes to Myanmar and Tibet region of China through Arunachal, he said produce of Arunachal which have a good market in South Asian countries like bamboo shoots, kiwi, cardamom, ginger, rubber are not getting market in mainland India.
‘Fixation of prices of these commodities is needed which if not done discourages farmers who grow them abundantly,’ Taga said urging the Union Ministry of Commerce to certify the default organic products which are grown by farmers in Arunachal without using any fertilizers as done in the state of Sikkim.
Banking facilities with foreign exchange provisions needs to be established at Nampong town of Arunachal on Indian side and at Pangsau on Myanmar side as the border trade under Indo-Myanmar sector is the most feasible, he asserted.
