NAHARLAGUN, Feb 15: Mayor, Itanagar Municipal Corporation Tame Phassang today flagged off the ‘Swachhta Vaahan’ which will disseminate awareness amongst the denizens for a clean and green Itanagar.
Making the flag off near Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Phassang urged the denizens to shoulder responsibility in making the state capital cleaner. “The ‘Swacchta Vahan’ is an attempt to create awareness on cleanliness through which we will eradicate the tag of Itanagar as the 7th dirtiest city of India and only if we change our mindset and generate civic sense we will achieve our goal,” the mayor said. “All of our corporators have made a pledge to work for a clean Itanagar. But all of you also need to share the responsibility equally. Itanagar is your city, please help us to make it clean,” he appealed.
The mayor also informed that cleanliness competitions will be held among the 20 wards and awards will be given by the IMC as well as the state government. When asked about garbage vehicles, Phassang informed that at least 50 more garbage trucks for the IMC are in the pipeline. Among others, corporators, Commissioner, IMC C Chukhu and other officials attended the event.
‘Swacchta Vahan’ will make rounds in colonies and sectors within the IMC. A toll free number 14420 has been given where people can call for lodging complaints on garbage disposal related issues.
