ITANAGAR, Aug 5: The Galo Students Union (GSU) and Aalo Area Students Union (AASU) on Monday called for shifting the present Screening Point/Check Gate at Piyi to Gabu while claiming that the area acts as the actual boundary between Siang & West Siang District and also serves as the main entry-exit point of West Siang District.
In a joint representation addressed to Deputy Commissioner, the organizations observed that outsiders entering the three villages ie. Logum-Jini, Eyi, and Biru which comes under Gabu area by taking Pasighat-Pangin road are not properly screened as the DA has set up Screening Point/Check Gate at Piyi area thereby putting the lives of denizens in these three villages in danger. The West Siang District has 3 (Three) entry and exit points namely via Nikte-Nyorak Road, Aalo-Bam road, and Aalo-Pangin road, the union disclosed.
While the DA has established a Screening Point/Check Gate at Nyorak -Bam junction as the stretch of road is being used by the commuters coming via Leparada and Upper Subansiri Districts to West Siang it asked the DA to initiate an equal measure to protect the people of “Nyiko Bango” which lies in lower parts of the District too.
Since the lockdown in the Itanagar Capital Region has been lifted, the union said as many are expected to return to the district this may increase the danger of community transmission if proper measures are not adopted to curb COVID-19.
