PASIGHAT, Jun 26: The Nepali Sanskriti Suraksha Parishad (NSSP), Pasighat carried out a mass peace rally on Sunday demanding granting of Gorkhaland.
Nearly 1400 members of NSSP, Pasighat participated in the rally carrying banners and display cards along with the tri-colour. Later they submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through local MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Management, Kaling Moyong. Moyong on his part assured to forward the same to the Prime Minister Office.
Hailing the contribution of Gorkhas to the Indian nation, he said that as Indian citizens their basic rights should be upheld. He also took reference of Baskota area of Pasighat which is named by Nepalis where the community has been living since ages.
However, Moyong appealed the Gorkhalis to take care of other’s democratic rights while demand for their own. Referring to Sikkim’s suffering due to blockade at Kalimpong, Darjeeling area, he said that demand should be placed peacefully involving all stakeholders.
‘Since the demand is legitimate, the Prime Minister will surely look into this,’ added Moyong.
Similar rally is scheduled to be held at Tezu on June 27 followed by other places.
