PASIGHAT, Jul 18: Raising concern over the growing degradation of environment by unregulated and unrestricted excessive mining activities in and around the river beds, All East Siang District Border Students’ Union and All East Siang District Students’ Union have jointly appealed the Deputy Commissioner, Pasighat for checking the menace.
In a letter to the DC on Wednesday, the student leaders of both unions cited the presence of numbers of Crusher Machines in the district as the major reason behind destabilization of the environment including aquatic life and hampering of natural flow of the river which in turn is contributing towards flood. Rampant felling of trees hampering environmental balance also needs to be checked, added the students. The examples of such environmental degradations are damage of Niglok Bridge over the Sille river and damage of various paddy fields in Rani, Sika Bamin, Sika Tode areas in the downstream of Poglek river/Pagla Nadi, they alleged.
The unions have appealed the DC to form a Monitoring Committee from the affected villages, added AESDBSU’s Nong Ngupok, James Taloh and AESDSU’s David Jerang.
