KANUBARI, Sep 12: Students of various Government schools of Longding district protested against the non-availability of required teaching staff through a mass rally organized today by the Longding District Students' Union (LDSU).
Holding placards and banners, students shouted slogans demanding sufficient number of teachers in various schools of the districts. Speaking to the media, Assistant Finance Secretary LDSU, Hengam Arangham informed that non-availability of sufficient teachers in different government schools in the district has jeopardized the academic activities and also alleged that appalling CBSE results in government schools is due to insufficient number of teachers. “Our district is far behind the laid down norms of RTE Act and has a 1:40 ratio. Longding district needs at least 130 teachers for different schools,” asserted Arangham. Further LDSU threatened that if concerned authority fails to fulfill their demands, the union may resort to the extreme form of democratic movement.
Meanwhile, the agitating students have urged the Department of Education and Chief Minister Pema Khandu to depute more teachers to their schools so that their careers are not jeopardized.
