Apatani Women’s body seeks justice, ESDSU demands fair probe

Ziro, Nov 3: The Apatani Women Association Ziro (AWAZ) expressed deep anguish and strong protest over the tragic and mysterious death of a young Apatani boy, a 12-year-old student of Class VII, Sainik School, Niglok, East Siang District.
A pall of grief and suspicion hangs over Sainik School, Niglok, after a young cadet was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the school campus on November 1 last.
AWAZ, the apex women’s body of the Apatani community, is deeply shocked that such an unfortunate incident has occurred in a reputed temple of learning, where students are expected to be nurtured and protected. The circumstances surrounding the death of the young student remains unclear, raising serious questions about the safety and accountability of the school authorities.
AWAZ has demanded a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation into the incident to ensure that justice is delivered to the bereaved family at the earliest. They also urged the authorities concerned to hold the school management accountable for any lapses or negligence that may have led to the tragic death of the boy.
AWAZ further demanded the immediate suspension of the responsible school officials to prevent any possible tampering of evidence or coercion of witnesses during the investigation process.
The shocking incident has sparked widespread concern among parents and the community, calling for stronger safety mechanisms in residential institutions across the state.
Earlier, the East Siang District Students’ Union (ESDSU) also expressed strong resentment over the tragic incident, stating that such an occurrence in a reputed institution like Sainik School, Niglok, not only tarnishes the image of the school but also casts a shadow over the entire district.
While expressing condolence to the bereaved family members, the Union has demanded a free, fair, and transparent investigation to unearth the truth behind the cadet’s death and ensure justice for the victim and his family.
