ITANAGAR, Jun 6: The All Tagin Students Union (ATSU) has issued a stern ultimatum to the government, threatening to enforce an indefinite bandh in Upper Subansiri District if immediate action is not taken against land and government quarters encroachers within the next ten days. ATSU has also submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary regarding this matter.
During a press conference held at the press club today, General Secretary, Vijay Dobin, expressed deep concern over the rampant encroachment of government land and quarters in the district, particularly in the district headquarters of Daporijo. Dobin expressed disappointment at the lack of action by higher authorities to address this issue.
According to reports, numerous individuals have occupied almost all of the government land and quarters. Furthermore, there are indications that many individuals have already started processing documents to occupy the current Deputy Commissioner's office complex, following its relocation to the new District Mini Secretariat.
Dobin disclosed that ATSU has submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary, urging the establishment of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the extensive illegal encroachment and demolition of government quarters. The union also demanded the prompt issuance of land allotments for the existing office premises of various departments, specifically for the construction of staff quarters before the shifting to the new Mini Secretariat
